Dorbooks was founded in 1985, and is dedicated to the proposition that everyone can learn how to read, no matter what their age or problem. Dolores G. Hiskes, author, illustrator, and creator of all Dorbooks products, has been involved with education most of her adult life, ever since teaching her own children how to read. She has collected classic old reading and spelling books from English-speaking countries all over the world and tutored reading for over thirty years, with 100% success in just a few weeks. Phonics Pathways is the result, an award-winning text now used by parents and professionals worldwide. It has won five national first-place awards as “Best Phonics Program in the Country.”
Dolores continues to write new material and consult with educators and parents. She has received many honors for her contributions to education, including being elected to five Marquis Who’s Who directories: …Who’s Who in American Women, …Who’s Who in the West, …Who’s Who in Education, …Who’s Who in America, and Marquis Who’s Who in the World.
Dolores lives with her husband John in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they love to read, travel, and hike. They have been known to go to any length to see a good movie! Most of all, however, they love to visit with friends and family. They have two beloved children, a spoiled pussycat named Jossey, and two adored grandchildren, whom Dolores also has taught how to read.
(The grandchildren, that is—not the pussycat!)
